Titanophoneus potens was a carnivorous therapsid of the dinocephalia group. Remains of this animal have been found at the Volga region (it is described from Isheevo, Russia ).

It is in many respects similar with South African Anteosaurus.  Initially Titanophoneus was considered as a water predator, like a crocodile, but, possibly, adult individuals hunted on large vertebral and on a land.

In translation from Greek the “Titanophoneus potens” is meant by “the titanic murderer”.

Titanophoneus are one of is better the studied representatives of group. They represented large dinocephalias with the big head, the short powerful neck, the extended stocky trunk, the strong extremities placed in the parties and a long tail. Skulls of adult animals could reach 60 sm at length at total length of a body about 5 m. In the faunistic communities they were the largest predators.
